What Does a Rashi Ratna Certificate Really Tell You?
The report is an important part of your decision. Here is how to read it without asking it to answer questions it cannot.
You find a gemstone you love. Its colour feels right, the weight matches the recommendation you were given, and the seller says it is “certified.” A PDF arrives on WhatsApp. It has a laboratory name, a number and several unfamiliar terms. Are you supposed to feel reassured now?
An independent gemstone report records a laboratory’s examination of a particular gemstone. It is most useful when you read it alongside the actual gemstone, rather than treating the word certified as the whole answer.
First, find out what was examined
Look for the gemstone’s identity. A report may say natural corundum, variety ruby, for example, rather than simply “Ruby.” It should tell you whether the material is natural or कृत्रिम (synthetic): formed in nature or grown in a laboratory.
Next, find its weight in carats (ct), measurements, shape and cut. These details help connect the report to the gemstone you are buying. A photograph may also be included, depending on the report format. Check the report number. If the laboratory offers online verification, look it up on the laboratory’s own website.
At moraebi, the certified carat weight is the primary measurement. If your recommendation is in रत्ती, we show a ratti equivalent using 1 ratti = 0.91 carat so you can compare the two. The converted ratti figure is not a second laboratory measurement.
Then read the treatment finding
The treatment line deserves as much attention as the gemstone name. A natural gemstone may have been heated, filled or altered in another way. “Natural” does not automatically mean “untreated,” and “unheated” does not cover every possible treatment.
Laboratories word their findings according to what their examinations can detect. Read the actual conclusion and ask someone to explain any unfamiliar phrase. For a gemstone you are considering at moraebi, we share the independent report and discuss its treatment finding with you before you choose.
Does the certificate tell you where it came from?
Not always. Natural and भौगोलिक उत्पत्ति (geographic origin) answer different questions. Natural means the gemstone formed in nature. Geographic origin is a laboratory opinion about a country or region, when the relevant report offers that service and a determination is possible.
An identification report can tell you what the gemstone is without naming a mining location. If a country of origin matters to your purchase, check for a report that actually includes that finding. Do not assume a country from a seller’s description or from the word natural.
What the report cannot choose for you
A report is not a price tag. It may describe colour, weight, shape and treatment, but it does not automatically tell you whether the asking price is fair or whether you will love the gemstone when you see it. For coloured gemstones, there is no broadly accepted grading system that turns every report into one universal quality grade. Compare the actual gemstones and their prices, not just the presence of a certificate.
Nor does a gemological report decide whether a gemstone is astrologically right for you. That recommendation belongs with your ज्योतिषी. The laboratory examines the gemstone; you decide whether its appearance, price and documented characteristics make it the one you want to wear.
This is why a video call matters. See the exact gemstone named in the report. Ask about the marks visible within it, the colour you are seeing and how it will look in a finished jewel. Then keep the report with your purchase documents.
At moraebi, we begin with the gemstone you have been advised to wear. We help you understand its report, choose the actual gemstone and make a jewel around its particular shape and character in Jaipur.
