translucent or semi-transparent. Its beauty is considered together with its
inclusions, treatment status, origin, recommended weight and price—then
explained clearly before you choose.
1. An Ancient Standard of Beauty
The Bṛhatsaṃhitā describes the
qualities sought in a fine ruby:
स्निग्धः
प्रभानुलेपी स्वच्छोऽर्चिष्मान् गुरुः सुसंस्थानः ।
अन्तःप्रभोऽतिरागो मणिरत्नगुणाः समस्तानाम् ॥ ८१.०३॥
Snigdhaḥ prabhānulepī svaccho’rciṣmān
guruḥ susaṃsthānaḥ;
antaḥprabho’tirāgo maṇiratnaguṇāḥ samastānām.
“Lustrous, suffused with radiance, clear,
shining, substantial, well formed, deeply coloured and illuminated from
within—these are the qualities of a fine gemstone.”

The verse values lustre, colour, form and
light—not colour alone. Moraebi looks for the same balance within the ruby
being considered and within the price at which it is offered.
2. The Astrological Standard for Ruby
आधूम्रं
व्रणबहुलं स्वल्पगुणं चाप्नुयाद् द्विशतभागम् ।
इति पद्मरागमूल्यं पूर्वाचार्यैः समुद्दिष्टम् ॥ ८१.११॥
Ādhūmraṃ vraṇabahulaṃ svalpaguṇaṃ
cāpnuyād dviśatabhāgam;
iti padmarāgamūlyaṃ pūrvācāryaiḥ samuddiṣṭam.
“A ruby that is smoky, heavily marked or
wounded, and possessing few good qualities, retains only a fraction of its
value. Thus was the value of ruby explained by earlier authorities.”

The ancient caution is against a heavily
damaged stone—not against every natural inclusion.
Natural ruby may contain crystals, fine
needles, healed fissures, colour zoning and rutile silk. These are like
the ruby’s birthmarks. Laboratories study them to confirm natural formation,
detect treatment and, in some cases, support an opinion about origin.
Moraebi accepts natural inclusions. We
avoid rubies with extensive open fractures, unstable cavities, black/brown
spots or damage that could weaken a
jewel intended for continuous wear.
The Red Must Be Natural. Never Treated.
Ruby occurs in nature as a spectrum of
tones and color be vivid red, pinkish
red, purplish red or deep crimson. The appropriate red is not one fashionable
shade—it is colour that feels alive in daylight and remains attractive in
ordinary indoor light.
Most rubies in the wider market are
heated. Others may be glass filled, fracture filled, dyed or diffusion treated
to improve their colour or apparent clarity.
An untreated ruby may appear more
included or modest than an enhanced stone offered at a similar price. Moraebi
selects only natural rubies with no evidence of treatment.
For astrological jewellery, we never
compromise or replace ruby with laboratory-created ruby, synthetic material or
another red gemstone. A doublet or triplet is an assembled stone to create the
appearance of a larger ruby. A substitute may look similar, but it has not
shared ruby’s natural chemical and structural formation.

certified. Its report belongs to the exact gemstone you receive.

Natural ruby exists across a wide range of reds, from pinkish and purplish red to deeper crimson.
It may be nearly opaque, translucent or transparent.
Fine transparent rubies command exceptional prices.
Moraebi also selects beautiful, accessible rubies whose colour and natural character can be appreciated in a jewel intended for everyday astrological wear.
Most natural rubies contain inclusions—the internal crystals, fine needles, clouds, growth lines or healed fissures formed during the gemstone’s development.
Think of them as the ruby’s birthmarks. They can support natural identification and, together with trace-element analysis, help a laboratory form an opinion about geographic origin.
An inclusion is not automatically a defect. We consider where it lies, how visible it is and whether it affects the ruby’s durability. No single inclusion proves that a ruby is natural or establishes its origin; a laboratory reads the complete internal and chemical picture.
Greater caution is required when the stone has extensive fractures, an open cavity, a fracture reaching a vulnerable edge or a large inclusion that seriously weakens or overwhelms it.
Some astrological traditions also avoid heavily fractured stones, prominent dark spots or damaged surfaces.
These are traditional suitability standards, not scientifically established measures of astrological effect.
If your astrologer has given specific instructions, Moraebi will apply them while presenting suitable stones.
We do not conceal a structural concern by calling every inclusion “natural beauty.”
It is described clearly, shown during consultation and reflected honestly in the price.
Each word answers a different question.
Natural means the ruby formed in the earth rather than in a laboratory.
Untreated means no treatment has been detected to alter its colour or apparent clarity.
Certified means the ruby has been examined and described in a laboratory report.
Transparent describes how readily light passes through the stone.
It does not establish whether the ruby is natural, untreated or suitable for astrological wear.
A ruby may be natural but heated.
It may be untreated but translucent rather than transparent.
Moraebi states each fact separately so that one attractive word is never used to imply everything else.
Heating is common in the wider ruby market and is used to improve colour or clarity.
A heated ruby is still a natural ruby, but it is not untreated.
Other materials may be fracture-filled with lead glass, diffused, dyed or otherwise enhanced to create a cleaner and more valuable-looking appearance.
Filled material can have different value, durability and care requirements.
Moraebi selects certified natural, untreated rubies for astrological jewellery.
If a very clear, brightly coloured and unusually large ruby is offered at a price similar to an accessible untreated stone, examine the laboratory report carefully.
It may be heated, filled, synthetic or an imitation.
Beautiful is possible. “Too perfect for the price” deserves a question.
Fine untreated rubies with documented Myanmar origin can command very high premiums, sometimes reaching several lakhs per carat.
Origin may matter greatly when a gemstone is being selected for rarity, provenance or investment.
An Indian, Mozambique, Madagascar or other-origin ruby may offer a different balance of colour, transparency, size and price.
A famous origin does not make every stone equally rare or equally suitable for your requirements.
For Moraebi’s client, origin is explained as part of the ruby’s identity and price—not used as shorthand for astrological power. If your recommendation specifies an origin, we follow it.
If origin is open, we help you compare the actual stones.
An accessible ruby may be more included or less transparent than an investment-grade stone.
That does not make it false.
It must still be natural, untreated, correctly identified, structurally suitable and honestly priced.
Moraebi does not pretend that a ₹30,000 ruby and a ruby costing several lakhs per carat belong to the same commercial category.
