1. An Ancient Standard of Beauty

The Garuḍa Purāṇa records puṣparāga
among gemstones of great quality:

पतिताया
हिमाद्रौ तु त्वचस्तस्य सुरद्विषः ।

प्रादुर्भवन्ति ताभ्यस्तु पुष्परागा महागुणाः ॥

Patitāyā himādrau tu tvacas tasya
suradviṣaḥ;

prādurbhavanti tābhyas tu puṣparāgā mahāguṇāḥ.

“From the skin of the enemy of the gods,
fallen upon the Himalaya, arose the Puṣparāga gemstones, endowed with great
qualities.”

Puṣparāga
carries the image of flower-coloured radiance. However, historical
identification is not stable: some translations understand puṣparāga as
topaz, while modern Indian astrological practice uses the name for yellow
sapphire.

Moraebi does not rely on the historical
name alone. The gemstone offered today must be independently identified as
natural yellow corundum.

2. The Astrological Standard for Yellow Sapphire

आधूम्रं
व्रणबहुलं स्वल्पगुणं चाप्नुयाद् द्विशतभागम् ।

इति पद्मरागमूल्यं पूर्वाचार्यैः समुद्दिष्टम् ॥ ८१.११॥

Ādhūmraṃ vraṇabahulaṃ svalpaguṇaṃ
cāpnuyād dviśatabhāgam;

iti padmarāgamūlyaṃ pūrvācāryaiḥ samuddiṣṭam.

“A stone that is smoky, heavily marked or
wounded, and possessing few good qualities, retains only a fraction of its
value.”

The ancient caution is against a heavily
damaged stone—not against every natural inclusion.

Natural yellow sapphire may contain
crystals, fine needles, healed fissures, colour zoning, fingerprints and rutile
silk. These are like the sapphire’s birthmarks. Laboratories study them
to confirm natural formation, detect treatment and, in some cases, support an
opinion about origin.

Moraebi accepts natural inclusions. We
avoid yellow sapphires with extensive open fractures, unstable cavities, large
black or brown opaque patches or damage that could weaken a jewel intended for
continuous wear.

The Yellow Must Be Natural. Never Treated.

Yellow sapphire occurs in nature as a
spectrum of tones and colours—pale lemon, light yellow, warm canary, golden
yellow or deeper honey yellow. The appropriate yellow is not one fashionable
shade—it is colour that feels alive in daylight and remains attractive in
ordinary indoor light.

Many yellow sapphires in the wider market
are heated. Others may be beryllium-diffusion treated, irradiated, fracture
filled, dyed or coated to improve their colour or apparent clarity.

An untreated yellow sapphire may appear
paler, more included or modest than an enhanced stone offered at a similar
price. Moraebi selects only natural yellow sapphires with no evidence of
treatment.

For astrological jewellery, we never
compromise or replace yellow sapphire with laboratory-created sapphire,
synthetic corundum, glass, topaz, citrine or another yellow gemstone. A doublet
or triplet is an assembled stone created to give the appearance of a larger
yellow sapphire. A substitute may look similar, but it has not shared yellow
sapphire’s natural chemical and structural formation.
